We offer tailored myopia control programs for children, adolescents, and adults, based on scientific evidence. With the latest treatment options, we aim to reduce the impacts of myopia while ensuring comfort and clarity throughout the day.

Defining Myopia

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common vision problem. It makes it easy to see things that are close, but hard to see things that are far away. This issue often starts in childhood and can cause discomfort and eye strain. People with myopia might struggle to read road signs, classroom boards, or see faces clearly from a distance.

If myopia isn't treated, it can get worse over time, leading to more severe nearsightedness and increasing the risk of serious eye problems like retinal detachment, glaucoma, and myopic maculopathy. That's why finding myopia early is very important, especially for children and young adults, whose eyes can change quickly.

Dau Family Eye Care offers a myopia management program. This program includes various treatments to help correct vision and slow myopia progression, reducing the risk of future complications.

Signs of Myopia in Children and Teens

In children, myopia is often diagnosed by their parents when they observe behavioral changes or performance insufficiencies. Some of the signs of myopia are as follows:

  • Squinting to see distant objects (like the classroom board).
  • Difficulty sitting at a normal distance from books or screens.
  • Trouble recognizing faces or objects far away.
  • Challenges in sports requiring long-range vision.
  • Frequent headaches or eyestrain after reading.

Early detection is crucial, as it enables optometrists to implement management strategies to prevent vision loss and reduce the long-term effects of myopia.

Myopia Control Treatment at the Dau Family Eye Care

At Dau Family Eye Care, we provide effective myopia control methods tailored to each patient's age, lifestyle, and condition severity. Our treatments aim to slow changes in eye shape, relieve visual stress, and achieve optimal vision.

1. Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)
Ortho-K involves custom rigid gas permeable contact lenses that reshape the cornea overnight, allowing clear daytime vision without glasses. It's ideal for active children and teens, as it significantly slows myopia progression.

2. Atropine Eye Drops
Atropine eye drops reduce eye focusing strain, helping to slow myopia progression. Safe for daily use under supervision, they are effective for children. Our doctors assess each patient individually to determine if this therapy is appropriate.

3. Multifocal Glasses and Contact Lenses
Multifocal lenses help reduce strain on developing eyes by incorporating different focusing strengths, preventing excessive eyeball elongation. They are particularly beneficial for children and teens needing vision correction while safeguarding against myopia progression. Our team ensures proper fitting and monitoring for comfort and effectiveness.
